The wind turns the blades, which spin a shaft. The shaft connects to a generator and produces electricity. In our boat turbine, the generator produces 220 volts 3-phase alternating current. The controller, converter, then converts the power to 12Volts direct current to recharge the battery bank.

Wind availability
In assessing whether a wind turbine is economically realistic for your boat depends on the quality of the wind resource. In general, the average wind speed of at least 10 mph are needed for a small unit to provide enough power to generate its cost.
