Wind availability
In assessing whether a wind turbine is economically realistic for your boat depends on the quality of the wind resource. In general, the average wind speed of at least 10 mph are needed for a small unit to provide enough power to generate its cost. Being on the Atlantic coast, we have the afternoon sea breeze in summer, usually produce 10-15 twenty miles per hour. If the boat is on the inside, probably winddifferent.
The most important component of assessing your wind resource is an anemometer. Anemometers are wind measuring devices, typically designed with a cup mounted on a rotating vertical shaft. The anemometer can "read" the wind speed.
If there is another owner of the boat with a wind-generator system in your vicinity, you may be able to obtain useful information from their owners than the power system and wind speed. Such information mayof enormous value as an option to install an anemometer.
Turbine assembly
The determination of where to mount the wind turbine takes some 'planning. It must be high enough to catch the wind, preferably by arches, sails, masts, which block or alter the flow of the wind.
